PATIENT RELIEF MISSION (PRM)Patient Relief Mission (PRM) is a non-Profit Organization based in Uganda, whose mission is “To provide a conducive environment for female cancer patients to rest and recuperate as they undergo treatment”. PRM was established in 2000 by Ms. Sheila Munyanziza- a two time cancer survivor. With the goal to support the wellbeing of Cancer Patients and their care-givers that come from rural areas and cannot afford to get to their treatments due to distance, travel expenses and ill health, she established a transitional hostel for 20 female cancer patients called Kiota Kona located at Plot 1408, Mumyuka Road Block 208, Kawempe Mbogo. There, the patients are offered accommodation, three meals a day, and transport to and from hospitals within Kampala. Kiota Kona has helped reduce the financial burden, and suffering of women who are unable to pay for accommodation, food and transport in the city – it is a home away from home for patients who are receiving Chemotherapy/ Radiotherapy and cannot afford to go back to their homes and return to hospital to access treatment.
The organization’s services are implemented by committed and well-trained staff & volunteers, who offer psycho-social support (counselling), capacity building trainings in skills enhancement of literacy, numeracy, tailoring, quail rearing, weaving, perma-gardening. Through its Post-Treatment Empowerment program, PRM commits to provide quails and poultry rearing, vegetable seeds, to be able to enjoy their fundamental human rights and participate in the development of their communities. PRM wishes to cater for 20 females patients but due to lack of resources and facilities, they have 8 patients due to lack of facilities. SBI donated 16 bunk beds, 32 mattresses, 32 Pairs of bed sheets, 32 blankets and 16 mosquito nets.
Therefore, SBI saw it necessary to give a helping hand to such a noble cause and supported PRM to achieve their goals & objectives by providing 16 bunk beds, 32 mattresses, 32 Pairs of bed sheets, 32 blankets and 16 mosquito nets.
IN THE MEDIA GOD'S MERCY CHILDREN'S HOME (GMCH)Having been a victim of both child and domestic violence, Ms. Hillary Basereka was determined to help children whose rights are violated through family conflicts. Thus, God’s Mercy Children’s Home – Mpererwe was established in 2002. In Uganda, many children still suffer from physical violence; some of them are engaged in exploitative child labor; more adolescent girls have experienced physical or sexual violence and corporal punishment is still rampant in schools These hardships have led to many children to run away from their homes for safety and they end up in streets and if they are lucky, they will be resettled in a home such as God’s Mercy’s Children’s Home.
In 2003, it was registered as a Non-Governmental Organization Reg. No 9184 with the main objective of reducing violence against children as well as providing care for the abandoned, destitute and orphaned children in Uganda. GMCH is home to 17 children; 9 boys and 8 girls between 10 months infants – 15 years of old. Each child has a unique story. Although most of the children are of school going age, not all of them are able to attend school due to lack of school fees. Those studying go to Kasasa Junior and Primary School in Kanyanya.
IN THE MEDIA MESSAGE OF HOPE PRIMARY SCHOOL - KIGUGOThe school came to our attention after it run in New Vision, Wednesday, December 21, 2017 – MWALIMU supplement. Below the story & Pictures courtesy of the New Vision. Message of Hope Primary School was started in 1995 by Pastor Charles Kivumbi and his wife Mary to provide education to the community children who had to trek very long distances to attend school. The school is located in Kigugo village on the shores of Lake Victoria in Buikwe district. Prior to the opening of the school, children from Kigugo village would travel about 10 miles through the swamps and forests to attend school. In 2004, the Kivumbis decided to build a church, which provided the structure in which the pupils hold their lessons. To date, Message of Hope Nursery and Primary School has over 70 pupils, three teachers; two of whom are school drop outs. Though the parents cannot pay much to the school, they are grateful that the school helps educate their children. ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN – GAYAZAChildren in poverty are invisible yet they constitute a disproportionately large section of the (poor) population, these children are vulnerable to shocks and adversities and consequently are hit by poverty. Given that Childhood is the most crucial development period in an individuals’ lifetime, any damage at this stage can lead to the perpetuation of the cycles of poverty resulting in the intergenerational and / or chronic poverty. These families face lack of school fees, clothes, shoes, proper shelter and medication. They are two families in Gayaza that SBI Uganda takes care of. One family comprises a widowed mother of three children; while the other comprises of a grandmother with her 5 orphaned children. All the children go to nearby schools, the mother pays their school fees through brick laying though sometimes they fail to attend school due to lack of school fees. SBI provided the 2 orphan families in Gayaza with food supplies on weekly basis (Since 2015), scholastic materials like books, pens, pencils, school bags and shoes, toys and beddings |
